IIM Kozhikode Society & Management Review is a bi-annual journal from the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode. The journal aims to connect to the management community—academia, businesses, public institutions, NGOs, and the Government—by way of motivating research and publishing rigorous, clear and widely accessible articles concerning business management and broader society.
Scope of business management has broadened to account for societal implications. Resource constraints are binding in a much more perceptible way today along with heightened social consciousness. This has percolated into the consciousness of communities worldwide with profound implications for sustainability in business and society. Similarly, business management principles have received wider acceptance in organizations primarily responsible for societal well-being. IIM Kozhikode Society & Management Review intends to highlight the significance of this broadened perspective by addressing its emerging challenges, innovations, idiosyncrasies and accomplishments. In doing so, the journal aims to bring out the many facets of management and their complex interrelationships. Moreover, of special interest would be contributions juxtaposing Eastern and Western philosophies in the context of contemporary management practices.
The journal will primarily publish relevant research articles from all functional areas of business management, and perspective articles on evolving trends, insights and philosophies in management. Published articles will undergo a double blind peer review process and pass two fundamental criteria— relevance to the journal’s theme and contribution to the management literature.
This journal is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Submission Guidelines for IIM Kozhikode Society & Management Review
Aims and Scope: IIM Kozhikode Society & Management Review is a bi-annual journal from the Indian Institute of
Management Kozhikode.
The journal will primarily publish relevant research articles from all functional areas of business management, and
perspective articles on evolving trends, insights and philosophies in management. Published articles will undergo a double blind peer review process and pass two fundamental criteria—relevance to the journal’s theme and contribution to the management literature.
Types of Contributions
Perspectives section includes articles, essays, think pieces that are intended to inform and influence a wider audience on a relevant issue or a research area.
Research section publishes articles that critically evaluate the extant literature in a relevant topic, identify a research question and empirically and/or analytically contribute to the advancement of the cumulative knowledge on the topic.
Notes and Interviews section includes research briefs and interviews with experts.
Book Reviews section publishes reviews of recent books relevant to the journal’s aims and scope.
Publication Ethics
SAGE is committed to upholding the integrity of the academic record. We encourage authors to refer to the Committee on Publication Ethics’ International Standards for Authors and view the Publication Ethics page on the SAGE Author Gateway
Manuscript Submission
-
Manuscripts must be submitted electronically at https://mc04.manuscriptcentral.com/ksm where authors will be required to set up an online account in the system (please check whether you already have an account before trying to create a new one). All papers must be submitted via the online system. If you have any queries, please contact the editorial office at editorial@iimk.ac.in
-
Authors will be provided with a copyright form once the contribution is accepted for publication. The submission will be considered as final only after the filled-in and signed copyright form is received.
-
Manuscripts should be written in English and should not exceed 10,000 words.
-
Manuscripts should include an abstract of 100–250 words and 4–7 keywords.
-
All manuscripts should be submitted with 1.5 line spacing throughout (not only the text but also displayed quotations, tables, notes, references and any other matter). The font used must be 12-point Times New Roman.
-
Manuscripts should include a title page with each author’s name, affiliation and contact information. If there are two or more authors, then the corresponding author’s name and address details must be specified clearly. Manuscripts should indicate the institutions and/or grant numbers of any financial support received for the research. It is the author’s responsibility to disclose any potential conflict of interest regarding the manuscript. If the manuscript is derived from a published paper make that evident on the title page as well.
-
All published articles will undergo a double blind peer review process.
-
British rather than American spellings should be used. Use the ‘z’ variant of British spelling.
-
All figures, i.e., diagrams, images and photographs, and tables should be provided separate from the text at the end and numbered in the order that they appear in text. Tables and figures must be cited and indicated by numbers (see Table 1), not by placement (see Table below). Each figure and table should have a heading, an explanatory caption if necessary, and a source or reference. Source details for figures and tables should be mentioned irrespective of whether or not they require permissions.
-
Present each table and figure in a separate file. Name the files by the number of the table or figure. Tables should be submitted in MS Excel or MS Word, in editable format. Figures must be submitted as TIFF/JPEG files with minimum resolution of 300 dpi and 1500 pixels. Do not provide an excessive formatting for tables and figures.
-
Notes should be numbered serially, the numbers embedded in the manuscript. The notes should be presented at the end of the article. Notes must contain more than a mere reference.
-
Use ‘nineteenth century’, ‘1980s’. Spell out numbers from one to nine, 10 and above to remain in figures. However, for exact measurements use only figures (3 km, 9 per cent not %). Use thousands and millions (e.g., not lakhs and crores).
-
Use single quotes throughout. Double quotes only to be used within single quotes. Spellings of words in quotations should not be changed. Quotations of 45 words or more should be separated from the text and indented with one space with a line space above and below.
-
Use of italics and diacriticals should be minimized, but be used consistently. Avoid excessive use of italics for emphasis; however use italics for book titles, journal names and foreign words.
-
The following conventions should be used when using hyphens, en dash, em dash:
- Use hyphens (-) to create compound words and to break a word across lines.
- Use an en dash (–) for a range of numbers, e.g., 75–80.
- Use an em dash (—) to mark an explanatory element in a sentence.
Citations and References
A consolidated listing of all books, articles, essays, theses and documents referred to (including any referred to in the tables, graphs and maps) should be provided at the end of the article.
-
Arrangement of references: Reference list entries should be alphabetized by the last name of the first author of each work. In each reference, authors’ names are inverted (last name first) for all authors (first, second or subsequent ones); give the last name and initials for all authors of a particular work unless the work has more than six authors. If the work has more than six authors, list the first six authors and then use et al. after the sixth author’s name.
a) Chronological listing: If more than one work by the same author(s) is cited, they should be listed in order by the year of publication, starting with the earliest.
b) Sentence case: In references, sentence case (only the first word and any proper noun are capitalized – e.g., ‘The software industry in India’) is to be followed for the titles of papers, books, articles, etc.
c) Title case: In references, Journal titles are put in title case (first letter of all words except articles and conjunctions are capitalized – e.g., Journal of Business Ethics).
d) Italicize: Book and Journal titles are to be italicized.
-

In-text citations:
-
One work by one author: (Kessler, 2003, p. 50) or ‘Kessler (2003) found that among the epidemiological samples..’.
