The Journal of Economic and Social Measurement (JESM) is committed to promoting the advancement, assessment, and utilization of quantitative methodologies for measuring economic and social phenomena. The journal functions as an interdisciplinary platform for pioneering research that deepens our comprehension of economic behavior, policy, and structure via empirical data, statistical techniques, and computer instruments.

While retaining its foundation in economics and social science, JESM actively welcomes contributions from related disciplines - including statistics, computer science, and artificial intelligence (AI) - that directly contribute to the measurement, estimation, and modeling of economic and social systems.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Development and evaluation of indicators for economic performance, social welfare, inequality, and productivity
  • Measurement of intangibles such as well-being, human capital, digital skills, and social capital
  • Statistical and econometric methods for survey data, administrative records, and observational data
  • Machine learning and AI methods applied to economic and social measurement
  • Data fusion, integration of traditional and nontraditional data sources (e.g., big data, mobile data, social media)
  • Advances in computational statistics relevant to empirical economic research
  • Methods for uncertainty quantification, robustness analysis, and reproducibility in measurement
  • New techniques for real-time economic monitoring, forecasting, and nowcasting
  • Evaluation of measurement frameworks in public policy, labor markets, health economics, education, and development
  • Applications of natural language processing (NLP), computer vision, or network analysis to socio-economic data
  • Visualization, interpretability, and transparency in measurement-based models

We particularly encourage research that bridges methodological innovation with substantive economic insight, fosters policy relevance, and supports interdisciplinary collaboration. The journal publishes theoretical contributions, methodological developments, and empirical applications, including simulation studies and case studies grounded in high-quality data.
