Carmen Pallás-Alonso, MD, PhD, is Chief of Neonatology at the 12 de Octubre Hospital in Madrid. She is a Professor of Pediatrics in the Medical School of the Complutense University of Madrid, a member of the Breastfeeding Committee of the Spanish Pediatric Association and member of the Spanish Group of Preventive Activities for Children and Adolescents (PrevInfad). The Neonatal Unit of the 12 de Octubre Hospital has pioneered in the application of Development Centered Care in Spain. It was the first Spanish Neonatal Unit with a Donated Human Milk Bank and it is also a Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative Hospital. The neonatal team performs research on the processing of milk in the milk bank and in the neonatal unit. Another point of interest for Dr. Pallás-Alonso is kangaroo care and everything connected with Development Centered Care and Family Care.
