Barry D. Kussman, MBBCh, FFA(SA) Boston Children's Hospital, Boston, MA, USA

Dr. Kussman graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand Medical School and completed his Anesthesia Residency at the University of Cape Town in 1993. He subsequently completed Fellowships in Pediatric Anesthesia at Boston Children’s Hospital and in Cardiac Anesthesia at the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. He joined the Faculty of the Department of Anesthesiology at Boston Children’s Hospital in 1999 and is an Associate Professor of Anaesthesia at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Kussman is a Fellow of the Faculty of Anaesthetists of the College of Medicine of South Africa and a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology. He is a Senior Editor for the American Board of Anesthesiology and Director of the Anesthesia Operating Room Laboratory at Boston Children’s Hospital.

His clinical focus is the perioperative care of infants, children and adults with congenital heart disease. His major research interests are the role of near infrared spectroscopy in pediatric cardiac surgery and the use of near infrared spectroscopy to assess cortical responses to stimuli during general anesthesia.
