Dr. Guðmundur Oddsson is a Professor of Sociology at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Akureyri, Iceland. He has over 15 years of experience teaching introductory sociology at the university level. He earned a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Missouri, Columbia, in 2014 and was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Northern Michigan from 2014 to 2017. Oddsson is passionate about making sociology accessible and engaging, and in 2023, he was inducted into the Teaching Academy in Iceland, whose main goal is to strengthen dialogue about teaching and pedagogical development within and between universities, as well as to reward academic staff who excel in teaching. Oddsson has also been a Visiting Scholar at Harvard University and a Visiting Senior Fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science. His research focuses on social control, deviance, and class inequality, with a particular emphasis on the subjective dimensions of class. Oddsson has published numerous journal articles and book chapters on these topics.
