Sara L. Gill, PhD, RN, IBCLC, is an Associate Professor of Nursing at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio School of Nursing. Dr. Gill gained her BSN and MSN from the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio and her PhD from the University of Miami. She has been an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant since 1992. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA) as the Director of Research and Special Projects. Her research has focused on increasing breastfeeding initiation, duration and exclusivity in vulnerable populations and health care provider training. Current projects include:

a. Community level breastfeeding support

b. Maternal diet and infant growth

c. Inter-professional breastfeeding education

d. Becoming a Baby Friendly hospital
